Together with the actress Martha Issová and the children's choir Čhavorenge, we are going to discover a land of wonders – and not only musical ones. Our new programme, based on a script by Alice Nellis, introduces music as a part of life. We’ll discover how music can help us in our lives, where its power comes from, and above all… magic.

Again for its 21st season, we have chosem music that we like for Steps to the New World. And we believe that the young musicians from the Czech Philharmonic Youth Orchestra will play with enthusiasm and that you, our dear public, will listen with joy! Together, we will open up the scores of works by three great composers – Sergei Prokofiev, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Leoš Janáček. Motion can serve as the link tying their music together. Joint Orchestra of Music School Pupils and the Czech Philharmonic Musicians

Each year, about sixty young people gather at the Rudolfinum to prepare a beautiful joint programme under the guidance of players from the philharmonic (and with the support of their teachers. This time, musicans are gathering from the Ústí nad Labem, Karlovy Vary, South Bohemia, and Olomouc regions. The charismatic conductor Petr Altrichter will lead the concluding concert.

Our host will be the Czech Philharmonic double bass section leader Adam Honzírek. We'll hear about what this big instrument can do and what makes it challenging, and also about its place in the symphony orchestra. To do this, we'll take a musical journey from the classics to jazz and on to modern experiments.

In this programme intended for the general public, Pavel Polívka, a percussionist with the Czech Philharmonic for many years, presents drums of various shapes and sizes along with other surprising instruments. There is a chance not just to see them, but also to try them out. Besides music, there's also time for a group discussion.

Programme inspired by the life story of priest Josef Toufar, who was tortured to death by Communist State Security officers in January 1950. With the Czech Philharmonic musicians, members of the Disman Radio Children’s Ensemble and music by Slavomír Hořínka.
