Subscription Series

The Czech Philharmonic, in its 131st season, presents subscription series A and B, an expanded C series, and three special concerts. The season’s programming connects Czech musical tradition with major works of the international repertoire as well as music by contemporary composers. Chief Conductor and Music Director Semyon Bychkov will be joined by Jakub Hrůša and Sir Simon Rattle. Violinist Janine Jansen takes on the role of Artist-in-Residence, while this season’s Composer-in-Residence is Thomas Adès.

Subscription Series A • Six Evening Concerts

The programme of orchestral Subscription Series A celebrates famed compositions, rediscovers works that have been unjustly forgotten, and welcomes the newest music. In the 2026/2027 season, we will hear compositions inspired by the creation of the world, dreams, and Greek legends as well as a suite from an opera, a ballet, two violin concertos, four symphonies, and (at least) one Ode to Joy.

Subscription Series B • Five Evening Concerts

Literary inspiration and the motif of ancient tales run through the programmes of Subscription Series B. Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde sets Chinese poetry to music, Sibelius’s tone poem En Saga echoes runic singing, and Composer-in-Residence Thomas Adès performs his Märchentänze. The origins of the performers and compositions point to a clearly Anglophone line in the programming.

A treat is in store in orchestral Subscription Series C for those who enjoy the music of Czech, Russian, and British composers. Semyon Bychkov will combine works by his long-time favourite Sergei Rachmaninoff first with dances by Bedřich Smetana and a second time with Benjamin Britten. The next three concerts will belong to guest conductors performing works spanning from the Baroque to the present.

To enter our new season, we are truly putting our best foot forward with the violin virtuoso and Artist-in-Residence Janine Jansen and our chief conductor Semyon Bychkov, who join the Czech Philharmonic in honouring Dmitri Shostakovich’s 120th birthday. Our traditional concluding Open Air Concert will commemorate Jiří Bělohlávek.
