Steps to the New World. • The 20th Century

We have decided to devote the entire 2022/2023 season to music written in the 20th century. The first concert will be a varied selection of modern music of different periods and styles. At the second concert we will encounter the music of George Gershwin. Stravinsky's Rite of Spring will be heard at the last concert. We offer subscriptions and tickets to individual concerts.

Chamber Steps to the New World with Antonín Dvořák

To our concerts with commentary, we are adding a new series in the Suk Hall, which is a more intimate counterpart to the orchestral Steps to the New World in the Dvořák Hall. At these three subscription concerts, Dvořák's songs and chamber music are at the centre of our attention, including the famous Moravian Duets, Gypsy Melodies, and "American Quartet".

Ivan Moravec Academy • Lectures and masterclasses

The Ivan Moravec Academy was founded to honour the great Czech pianist and teacher Prof. Ivan Moravec. The academy is continuing the tradition of his famed masterclasses, lectures, and listening seminars. The theme this year will be Beethoven’s piano music and chamber works. The guests will be two superb pianists: Alfred Brendel and Boris Giltburg.

Joint Orchestra of Music School Pupils and the Czech Philharmonic Musicians

In this project, pupils from elementary schools of the arts all around the Czech Republic encounter their experienced colleagues from the Czech Philharmonic. After half a year of intense preparations, the project culminates with joint rehearsals for a gala concert where the orchestra plays under the baton of Petr Altrichter.

Programme inspired by the life story of priest Josef Toufar, who was tortured to death by Communist State Security officers in January 1950. With the Czech Philharmonic musicians, members of the Disman Radio Children’s Ensemble and music by Slavomír Hořínka.

We also invite the elderly to non-traditional musical encounters. Everybody, regardless of age, abilities, and musical experience can join in. Because it will above all be about the joy of new social bonds, the experience of listening to music, finding new links between rythm, tempo, movement, instrument colours, and silence between the notes.

For the second time this season we invite seniors to non-traditional musical meetings. This time our theme will be "Human Life" and how it is reflected in music, singing and dancing. We will create a space for music and words to resonate together. The guides Rafaela Drgáčová, Ondřej Tichý and Hana Novotná are looking forward to seeing you.
