For children and parents

For several years, these popular musical workshops have been offered to preschoolers, and now we have decided to open them to the general public. The workshops reveal the hidden recesses of music to children and to the adults accompanying them. We introduce them to the musicians and their instruments and to the beautiful building known as the Rudolfinum. Join us on our adventure of discovery of the world of music.

"Do you know that some instruments are made of wood, while others are made of metal? And that the metal ones are called the brass instruments? And what happens if people who play these instruments lose their front teeth? So how about coming to explore some brass instruments? Come to the Rudolfinum for a fairy tale about the animals and the robbers.

We’ll introduce you to the family of string instruments. Dad and mom—the bass and cello, and the children—violin and viola. And just like any other family, they play together. Just come to see and hear the sound of the strings played by the musicians of the Rudolphin Ensemble.

The journey can be the destination. Let's go together to a concert of chamber music by Antonín Dvořák. Where will we go? As far as America. What will we be riding? Dvořák's favourite means of transportation. Who will go with us? The Norbert Quartet - real string experts.

Once upon a time there was a Chinese emperor who loved toys, technical novelties, machines of all kinds, and mechanical puppets. Then one day he received an unusual gift: a mechanical nightingale wound up with a key. But can it replace the lovely song of a live nightingale? And what happens if the toy breaks?

With the actress Martha Issová, we will visit Wonderland, a kingdom of music and other miracles. Our new programme, based on a script by Alice Nellis, presents music as a part of life, something to play with, explore, try out, and test. The Prague Baroque Ensemble and its conductor Vojtěch Jouza are looking forward to meeting you.

Don't miss this torrent of spirited Romani songs - including the lively Czárdás - that are both traditional and contemporary but above all beautiful, performed by the Čhavorenge children's choir led by Ida Kelarová along with their own composer Desiderius Dužda, a jazz trio, and musicians of the Czech Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.

With beautiful music that tells stories, we will be flying around Europe from north to south and from west to east. Bizet’s fiery Carmen will be ignited, Peer Gynt, now stranded, will awaken one lovely morning, the singer Tannhäuser will enter Wartburg Castle, and a fairy-tale prince will come to the shore of Swan Lake. And for those who are brave, there is a ride to Vesuvius in a cable car!

In a season when we are commemorating the 200th anniversary of Bedřich Smetana's birth, Jana Boušková is presenting selections from Má vlast arranged for harp, Josef Špaček and Miroslav Sekera will play compositions for violin and piano, and young musicians under the guidance of Magdaléna Mašlaňová will play Smetana's works for quartet. At this series of concerts with commentary, selected compositions will be heard with verbal explanations.

You are invited to two-day masterclasses that offer a unique opportunity to be part of an intense gathering of musicians of the younger generation with world-famous master musicians Alfred Brendel and Boris Giltburg. The theme for this year is Beethoven's late piano and chamber music.

In this project, pupils from elementary schools of the arts all around the Czech Republic encounter their experienced colleagues from the Czech Philharmonic. After half a year of intense preparations, the project culminates with joint rehearsals for a gala concert where the orchestra plays under the baton of Petr Altrichter.

A programme inspired by the life story of priest Josef Toufar, who was tortured to death by Communist State Security officers in January 1950. With the Czech Philharmonic musicians, members of the Disman Radio Children’s Ensemble and music by Slavomír Hořínka.

During an evening of dancing in the style of Bedřich Smetana's period, awaiting you is a ball at the Rudolfinum with the swishing of skirts, the whirling of fans, and varied folk costumes from every corner of our country. Come get a taste of the end of the 19th century and experience a different kind of ball!

An interactive programme designed primarily for a senior audience, in which one of the world's finest harpists - Jana Boušková - will reveal the secrets of what is undoubtedly the orchestra's most elegant, golden and mysterious instrument.

We also invite the elderly to non-traditional musical encounters. Everybody, regardless of age, abilities, and musical experience can join in. Because it will above all be about the joy of new social bonds, the experience of listening to music, finding new links between rhythm, tempo, movement, instrument colours, and the silence between the notes.
