On our journeys to the world of the classics, we discover Romantic music most frequently: big symphonies and concertos like Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, Tchaikovsky's Pathetique, or Dvořák's New World Symphony, Cello Concerto, or symphonic poem The Water Goblin. We examine the music of the 20th century only occasionally - like Reich's Eight Lines, Kabeláč's Mystery of Time, Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony, or Janáček's Jenůfa.

We have decided to devote the entire 2022/2023 season to music written in the 20th century. The first concert will be a varied selection of modern music of different periods and styles. At the second concert we will encounter the music of the most famous American composer, George Gershwin, and not just his Rhapsody in Blue, but also his Cuban Overture. The last concert features work that in a sense symbolises music of the 20th century: Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. It was first heard under tempestuous circumstances in Paris 110 years ago on 29 May 1913.
