The Czech Philharmonic has been entrusted with the 1757 Guadagnini cello known as the “Teschenmacher” on long-term loan. Crafted by one of the foremost Italian luthiers of the 18th century, the rare cello has been lent to the orchestra by Dr. Vladimíra Hrabánek Glatzová, founding partner of the law firm Glatzová & Co., which is becoming the Czech Philharmonic’s Partner of Master Instruments.
The “Teschenmacher” cello was crafted in 1757 by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini and, over more than 250 years of its history, has earned a reputation as an exceptional concert instrument. Among those who have played it is the renowned Korean cellist Han-Na Chang.
Its story now continues with the Czech Philharmonic, where it will become part of the orchestra’s artistic life. The cello will be played by Václav Petr, concertmaster and section leader of the Czech Philharmonic. He particularly values its rich palette of colours, tonal complexity, and remarkable responsiveness to the finest musical nuances.
The new partnership with the law firm Glatzová & Co. not only provides important support for the Czech Philharmonic’s Master Instruments programme, but also helps ensure that one of these precious historic instruments remains a living part of today’s musical life.
