Hearing/Seeing

The Czech Philharmonic and Galerie Rudolfinum, with the support of Lunchmeat Festival, invite young artists to participate in the “Hearing/Seeing” project as part of the Czech Year of Music 2024.

Join us for a project whose aim is to bring together contemporary visual art and the heritage of Czech classical music in a creative conversation. The result will be up to fifteen individual audiovisual works exhibited in the Rudolfinum Ceremony Hall. The project will also be shared through the social media channels of both institutions.

Submissions will be accepted from April 18th to June 2nd, 2024.

Form

Artists will create a visual piece in response to one of five musical extracts, in a format of H.264@30 fps in a 9:16 (portrait) aspect ratio. The result will then be a fusion of both components into a resultant audiovisual work.

The artists can choose from these five extracts

  1. Smetana: Vltava (0:53)
  2. Kaprálová: Suita rustica, I. Allegro rustico (0:54)
  3. Martinů: Symphony no. 6, II. Poco Allegro (1:31)
  4. Rychlík: African Cycle, III. (2:00)
