A graduate of the Paris Conservatory and one of today’s most sought-after concert organists, Vincent Dubois is acclaimed for his “compelling and mature interpretations of organ works, which he performs with virtuosity and absolute technical control”. He was born in France in the Breton town of Saint-Brieuc, where he fell in love with the organ at the local cathedral as a child. He began playing the organ at the age of 12; today, he holds the prestigious position of one of three titular organists at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. Prior to that, he held the same position at the cathedral in Soissons and in his hometown.
He burst onto the international scene in 2002, when he was honoured at two major organ competitions: with the Recital Gold Medal at the Canadian International Organ Competition in Calgary and the Grand Prize at the International Organ Competition in Toulouse. Since then, he has performed on leading concert stages throughout Europe, as well as in North America and Asia, including appearances at numerous international music festivals. As a guest soloist, he has performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Dallas Symphony, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, and a wide range of French ensembles. He has also performed several times at national and regional conventions of the American Guild of Organists.
He is also dedicated to teaching—for ten years, until 2022, he served as director of the Strasbourg Conservatory, and he also taught organ at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany. He currently serves as a professor of organ performance and improvisation at the Hochschule für Musik in Saarbrücken. Improvisation is an essential part of organ playing, and this art has a long-standing tradition in the French school; Vincent Dubois also likes to include it at the end of his recitals, where it is customary in France for the audience to choose the theme of the improvisation. “I was once asked to improvise a symphonic movement on the Nokia theme,” Dubois mentioned in one of his interviews.
He has also led masterclasses at many prominent institutions in the U.S., such as Yale University, The Eastman School of Music, The Curtis Institute of Music, Baylor University, and the University of Michigan, where he served as a Continuing Guest Artist for two years between 2014 and 2016.
Dubois has several albums to his credit; his latest CD, Eternal Notre-Dame (2025), is the first recording of the organ at the cathedral since it was restored to working order two years ago following the major fire in 2019. His performances have also been broadcast by numerous radio stations, including Radio France, ORF Vienna, CBC Radio-Canada, and Radio Australia.
He also forms a duo with French accordionist Marie-Andrée Joerger; during the 2025/2026 season they gave numerous performances across Europe, as well as in the United States and Canada. In September 2026, he also appeared in Prague as part of the Prague International Organ Festival.
