My Harp Country with Jana Boušková

It looks as if a smiling harpist just strokes the harp strings gently, but in reality, playing the harp is hard work. They get calluses on their fingers. In this concert with commentary, Jana Boušková will introduce us to the world of the harp and will play Vyšehrad, Šárka, and The Moldau from the cycle Má vlast.

The programme is based on a musical part but also on a spoken word that will be given in Czech language only. The programme will not be supplied with English subtitles.

It is hard to imagine a more suitable instrument than the harp for highlighting feminine grace, charm, and elegance. Smiling ladies gently stroke the strings of their gleaming instruments as if floating on the clouds in the sky… But this is a mistake! In reality, playing the harp is really hard work. Harpists tune their own strings, they have calluses on their fingers, and the scores they read are full of a huge number of notes. Not to mention the seven foot pedals. There were even famous composers who were afraid to write for the harp.

We will deal with the positives and negatives of playing this regal instrument among other topics at a concert with commentary given by the world-famous harpist Jana Boušková. Come hear our leading lady of the harp, who will play Má vlast, one of Bedřich Smetana's most frequently performed works, in her own unique arrangement. We will be hearing Vyšehrad, Šárka, and, of course, The Moldau

The moderator for the programme is Jan Kyjovský.
