The final concert of the season will belong to Russian music. It will open with the overture to the opera Ruslan and Ludmila, which was written by the romantic Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka, based on Pushkin's fairy tale poem from the time of the mythical bogatyr. The Radio Symphony will then be joined by one of the finest cellists of our time, Daniel Müller Schott, to perform the dark and grotesque Cello Concerto No.2, which Dmitri Shostakovich wrote for his compatriot, virtuoso Mstislav Rostropovich. Chief conductor Petr Popelka will close the evening and the season with the popular Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky in Maurice Ravel's timeless instrumentation.
