Morning Concerts • Six Saturday morning concerts
The Zemlinsky Quartet, pianist Marek Kozák or the Czech Brass ensemble are part of this varied series. The Prague Philharmonic Children’s Choir presents Martinů’s music during the Advent. Outstanding French organist Thierry Escaich introduces himself as a composer. The Czech Philharmonic Wind Harmony and conductor Ondřej Vrabec close the season.

Since the beginning, the Saturday Matinees have been a very popular concert series thanks in part to their variety. Besides familiar Czech ensembles and performers, the Zemlinsky Quartet, and pianist Marek Kozák, the Czech Brass will also be appearing. They will play not only music that has passed the test of time, but also a world premiere of a composition by Jiří Gemrot and a number of pieces from the 20th century. During Advent, you will also hear the Prague Philharmonic Children’s Choir and works by Bohuslav Martinů, Zdeněk Lukáš, Slavomír Hořínka, and Benjamin Britten. One of the concerts is devoted to a foreign soloist –outstanding French organist Thierry Escaich, who will also introduce himself as a composer. The final concert will feature the Czech Philharmonic Wind Harmony led by Ondřej Vrabec. That programme will include a seldom-heard work by Paul Hindemith that is a staple of the viola repertoire, the viola concert titled Der Schwanendreher.
