Advent Concerts

Advent Concerts of the Czech Philharmonic at the Rudolfinum have become an inseparable part of the magic of the pre-Christmas season. The programs are spread across the four Sundays of Advent and attractively combine festive melodies with well-established chamber repertoire pieces.

We begin with strings: Quintetto della Trota, composed of leading players from the string section, will perform Schubert’s famous quintet “The Trout.” The program continues with the cimbalom. With the exceptionally popular Cimbalom Ensemble of the Czech Philharmonic, the audience will experience their philharmonic musicians in a completely different context. The brass section will then take over. In a program ranging from early Baroque to the 20th century, we will hear PBtet, featuring two of the orchestra’s principal trumpeters. The final Advent Sunday is dedicated to double-reed instruments, namely oboes and bassoons. Handel’s popular Water Music will be complemented by traditional Czech rorate chants and Christmas carols.
