The Playful Harp

Rudolfinum — EDUcentrum 50 minutes Children 150 CZK, adults 200 CZK | Capacity 25 participant

Playing the harp might seem simple; after all, we can play a scale with just one finger! But in reality, it’s not as easy as it might look. This royal instrument can conjure up not only lovely, heavenly tones, but also frightfully devilish sounds. Get to know the harp up close and experience it as never before.

Playing the harp might seem simple; after all, we can play a scale with just one finger! But in reality, it’s not as easy as it might look. This royal instrument can conjure up not only lovely, heavenly tones, but also frightfully devilish sounds. We'll be convinced of this by Czech Philharmonic harpist Jana Boušková, the only Czech to win the world's most famous harp competition in 1992, where the prize she took home was a beautiful harp. Get to know the harp up close and experience it as never before.

We introduce various harp playing techniques. We play at being detectives and learn the principle of how the instrument works and why it makes such a unique sound. We can look forward to lots of riddles and quizzes, and we will also sing together.

The programme is based on a musical part but also on a spoken word that will be given in Czech language only. The programme will not be supplied with English subtitles.
