The Emperor’s Nightingale

Once upon a time there was a Chinese emperor who loved the singing of a nightingale. Then one day he received an unusual gift: a mechanical toy nightingale wound up with a key. But can it replace the lovely song of a live nightingale? And what happens if the toy breaks?

The program for children is based on a musical part but also on a spoken word that will be given in Czech language only. The program will not be supplied with English subtitles.

Let’s listen to Andersen’s fairy tale The Emperor’s Nightingale and experience it together in an enchanting musical setting by composer Václav Trojan. We’ll listen to the ancient tale, sing with the nightingale, accompany it by making sounds using our bodies, and our emissaries will even honour the emperor by playing Orff instruments. The members of the Trojan Trio will provide the non-traditional accompaniment.
