Programme

Bohuslav Martinů was a composer who was not afraid to try all kinds of experiments in his works. How did he see and hear the world of his time, and how might we feel if we spent some time in his skin? What does the composer’s music reveal about him? And what about his wife? Yes, Charlotte Martinů might be coming, too...

Excerpts from letters, archival photography, the contents of an old suitcase… At this music drama workshop, the pupils discover the composer’s fate through dramatic techniques, so they can connect the unfamiliar face in a textbook with the story of a real person, whose music came from his soul. To whom did Martinů write most frequently? What was his life like in Paris in the 1920s and ’30s? Bohuslav Martinů did not hesitate to write a jazz ballet for a Pot, Dishcloth, Twirling Stick, Lid, and Broom. In the course of the programme, the students will be able to compose their own version of La revue de cuisine in a special philharmonic kitchen. And we beg you: leave your notebooks at school; there will be no lecturing about facts!
