Programme

Become apprentice magicians in the percussion kingdom, where the magician Pavel Polívka lives. Everyone will feel safe there, like in a lair, even with the sound of thunder, rain, or stampeding horses. We will also encounter some stray, disobedient tympani, crashing ocean waves, cuckoos and other birds, and peaceful herds of sheep and cattle. After all, percussion instruments can make all of these sounds – and much more.

The workshop focuses on rhythm and knowing the percussion instruments – e.g. tympani, marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel, snare drum – with commentary and demonstrations by a philharmonic percussion magician. In the first half, we also learn a few basic rhythms, making sounds and noises on our bodies, and with their aid, in the second half we become a part of the fairy tale about the “Wandering Tympani”.
