Minister of Culture Martin Baxa has extended the mandate of the Czech Philharmonic's General Director David Mareček for an indefinite period. In this unusual move, Minister Baxa acknowledged the excellent results achieved by David Mareček during his two six-year terms at the head of the first Czech orchestra.

“I could see and hear the results of the work of David Mareček and his team as a frequent visitor to the concerts of our first orchestra, and in my current position I have naturally become thoroughly familiar with his work. I am therefore pleased to appoint him as General Director of the Czech Philharmonic for an indefinite period from 1 February 2023.”
David Mareček has been General Director of the Czech Philharmonic since February 2011. During his tenure he has stabilised the orchestra and set the concept of its long-term development. He brought back Jiří Bělohlávek as chief conductor and, after his untimely death, Semyon Bychkov, who last year extended his contract with the orchestra until 2028.
“I appreciate Minister Baxa's decision immensely and I see it as an appreciation of everything that all of us at the Czech Philharmonic have managed to achieve over the past twelve years.”
