The Czech Society for Chamber Music (CSCM) opens its 130th anniversary season. The dramaturgy of 28 concerts divided into five cycles is truly varied this year. Look forward to works by Dvořák, Smetana and Mozart, as well as contemporary composers such as Lera Auerbach and Petr Popelka. Petr Popelka is this year's curator and, in addition to his role as composer, he will also appear as double bassist and pianist.
Cycle I, titled Cycle Marking the Czech Chamber Music Society’s 125th anniversary, encompasses seven concerts that will feature a wide spectrum of international works, primarily dating from the Classicism and Romanticism periods, in juxtaposition with music by Czech composers.
Cycle II bears the title Czech Chamber Music Masterpieces. The programme features works by Czech composers, ranging from Classicism, through 20th century, to the present time.
The concerts within the Early Evening Concerts cycle will be given by brilliant artists too. The pianists Boris Krajný and Martin Kasík, the violinists Roman Patočka and František Novotný, the mezzo-soprano Markéta Cukrová, the Herold Quartet, Trio Martinů, and the reputable all-female Kalabis Quintet, to name but a few.
The Morning Concerts cycle will present the violinist Milan Al Ashhab and the pianist Adam Skoumal, both of them winners of prestigious international competitions. A joint concert will be given by the outstanding pianists Jan Bartoš and Miroslav Sekera. The other artists to perform within the cycle include the organist Aleš Bárta, the Prague Guitar Quartet, the Czech Trio, as well as the acclaimed Variace ensemble.
