Orchestral Academy – French Horn

The Czech Philharmonic and its Chief Conductor and Music Director Semyon Bychkov announce an audition for the Orchestral Academy for the period from 1st September 2025 to 30th June 2027 in the French Horn section.

Application deadline: 14th April 2025
Audition date and place: 19th May 2025, Rudolfinum, Prague

The opportunity to broaden their education and gain valuable experience in the academy of the first Czech orchestra is especially available to students and graduates of secondary and higher music schools, both from the Czech Republic and abroad.

To apply, please fill in the application form and attach your structured CV and a copy of your diploma or confirmation of the ongoing study.

Audition repertoire

Solo piece:

  1. W. A. Mozart: Concerto for French Horn No. 2 in E flat major K 417 (1st movement)
    or
    W. A. Mozart: Concerto for French Horn No. 4 in E flat major K 495 (1st movement)
  2. A solo work of applicant’s choice

Orchestral excerpts:

  • A. Dvořák: Cello Concerto, 1st movement
  • A. Dvořák: Symphony No. 7, 2nd movement
  • A. Dvořák: Symphony No. 7, 1st movement  
  • A. Dvořák: Symphony No. 9, 4th movement
  • J. Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 1, 1st movement
  • M. Ravel: Pavane pour une infante défunte
  • L. van Beethoven: Symphony No. 7, 2nd movement
  • L. van Beethoven: Fidelio, overture
  • G. Mahler: Symphony No. 1, 1st movement
  • G. Mahler: Symphony No. 3, 1st movement

You can apply for the audition until 14th April 2025.

Students between the ages of 18 and 26 (decisive is the age on the day of the audition) may apply to the Orchestral Academy.
