Orchestral Academy – Flute

The Czech Philharmonic and its Chief Conductor and Music Director Semyon Bychkov announce an audition for the Orchestral Academy for the period from 1st September 2025 to 30th June 2027 in the Flute section.

Application deadline: 12th May 2025
Audition date and place: 16th June 2025, Rudolfinum, Prague

The opportunity to broaden their education and gain valuable experience in the academy of the first Czech orchestra is especially available to students and graduates of secondary and higher music schools, both from the Czech Republic and abroad.

To apply, please fill in the application form and attach your structured CV and a copy of your diploma or confirmation of the ongoing study.

Audition repertoire

Solo piece – Flute:

W. A. Mozart: Concerto in G major KV. 313, 1st and 2nd movements, without cadenzas

Orchestral excerpts – Flute:

L. v. Beethoven: Leonora III. (marked section)
A. Dvořák:
- Symphony No. 9 (selected solos, including piccolo – without extra preparation)
- Symphony No. 8 (solo from IV. movement)
I. Stravinsky: The Firebird (marked section)
M. Ravel: Daphnis and Chloe
F. Mendelssohn: Scherzo

Solo piece – Picollo:

A. Vivaldi: Concerto in C major, 2nd movement (with piano, marked section from the beginning)
F. Poulenc: Sonata for flute, 2nd movement (with piano, first 10 bars)

Orchestral excerpts – Picollo:

L. v. Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 (IV. movement, marked section)
D. Shostakovich: Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 (selected section)
P. I. Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4 (marked section from the III. movement)
L. Janáček: Sinfonietta (marked excerpts)
B. Smetana: The Bartered Bride – Overture (marked excerpts)

Candidates will play everything in this specified order, according to the submitted scores, and without unnecessary delays between individual pieces or sections.

You can apply for the audition until 12th May 2025.

Students between the ages of 18 and 26 (decisive is the age on the day of the audition) may apply to the Orchestral Academy.
