Music for Schools

The project supports music education in the Czech Republic and the teachers in particular. It brings together teachers at elementary schools, music schools, and secondary schools as well as pre-school teachers. The meetings allow them to discuss, share inspiration, and work together to find ways to introduce children to the world of music.

Music for Schools

The project Music for Schools supports music education in the Czech Republic and the teachers in particular. It brings together teachers at elementary schools, music schools, and secondary schools as well as pre-school teachers. The meetings allow them to discuss, share inspiration, and work together to find ways to introduce children to the world of music. In addition, to make music an increasingly respected subject seen as an important part of the aesthetic and personal cultivation of children and young people, one of the main goals of the project is to bring together people who are interested in quality music lessons, to fortify their courage in coming up with new ideas and in their role as fighters whose main weapon is the heart. Within the framework of the project, there are meetings of teachers in individual regions and locations of the Czech Republic, and pre-school teachers meet at the Rudolfinum in Prague. We are also planning a platform that would bring together those who teach music pedagogy at the education faculties of this country’s universities. The project runs in cooperation with JOB – Association for Innovation in Education.

Regional centres

The project Music for Schools has transformed from big meetings at the Rudolfinum in Prague into more intimate gatherings at nine regional centres all around the Czech Republic where
teachers can be in smaller groups, build upon the musical traditions of the individual regions, and of course last but not least, connect with each other. The teachers meet and share inspiration
and support for a creative teaching approach. This creates an open, safe space where everyone is welcome. At the regional centres we think of music education not only as an opportunity for
teachers and pupils to develop themselves musically; we believe that music involves topics that transcend concert halls and music textbooks. Music teachers can combine topics and teaching
material that cross over subjects while joining with the children in using music to develop playfulness, curiosity, and creativity. The world, and not only the music world, is not black and
white – whether good or bad, every situation a person is faced with is a new experience that is a starting point for further action and learning. These principles are the basis for all of the
regional meetings, and the primary goal is the development of each individual. At the same time, everyone at the gatherings is trying out concrete musical activities that they can further refine for
their own lessons and develop for their own use.
