After finishing the natural science grammar school in Cheb (West Bohemia), he studied at the Plzeň Conservatory with Václav Lísa (class of 1984). He won an international competition in Kroměříž in 1982. While still studying, he joined the Suk Chamber Orchestra and in 1991, he won a closed audition within the Czech Philharmonic and became the associate principal double bass player.

He is a popular chamber musician and often plays with Czech ensembles including the Panocha Quartet, Apollon Quartet, Martinů Quartet, Pražák Quartet and foreign ensembles such as Henschel Quartet (Germany). He collaborates with chamber orchestras including Ars Instrumentalis Pragensis (1st prize at Osaka International Chamber Music Competition 1996 in Japan), Praga Camerata and the Czech Chamber Orchestra. In 1994–2000, he taught at the Jan Neruda Music Grammar School in Prague.
