Intensity of musical expression and perfection of counterpoint are characteristic features of the works of both Johann Sebastian Bach and Jan Dismas Zelenka. In spite of this, the music of these two geniuses differs greatly. Bach's music is grounded in Germany's Lutheran traditions, while Zelenka's music exhibits a Catholic ethos and Italian sensibilities, and the two contrast with each other like water and fire. Our guide on a journey through the world of timeless beauty of the two great composers' artistry will be one of the young generation of Czech vocalists – the bass Jan Martiník.
